Dredging Underway at the Port of Port Orford

After a long wait, the port is getting dredged! This is an important effort that keeps our working waterfront accessible and safe for the small-boat fleet. From June 25 to July 5, crews from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be on site, operating around the clock to deepen the federal navigation channel and remove naturally built-up sediment.

This year’s work includes the use of two dump scows, which means more efficient dredging and smoother operations for local boats. The port will remain open throughout the project, but mariners are encouraged to steer clear of active dredging areas whenever possible.

Regular dredging ensures our fleet can safely moor, launch, and unload. This keeps fresh, local seafood flowing from the docks to the community.
